SAI independence in the spotlight

The issue of SAI independence and the need to recognize the repercussions created by a decline of SAIs‘ mandates and their operational autonomy is addressed in the article “Accountability is in danger if national watchdogs are compromised” published by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) in Public Finance Focus, a platform hosted by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

The article sheds a light on current cases of infringements that are being dealt with by the SAI Independence Rapid Advocacy Mechanism (SIRAM) and features information about the most recent Global SAI Stocktaking Report, with statements made by Einar Gørrissen, Director General of IDI; Bruno Dantas, Chair of INTOSAI; Gareth Davies, UK Comptroller and Auditor General and the Right Honourable Helen Clark, the INTOSAI-Donor Cooperation goodwill ambassador for SAI independence. It furthermore provides an outlook on the collaborative efforts made by INTOSAI, IDI and partner organizations such as the OECD to raise awareness, promote a better understanding of the various factors contributing to SAI independence and solicit support.

Please find the full article here and visit IDI’s webpage to learn more about SIRAM.
